Just because you have a blog, doesn’t guarantee it will provide SEO benefit. Here are some tips that will boost the SEO power of your blog.
Check your upload speed.
If you have a WordPress blog, use the WP Super Cache plugin. Because it caches pages, it speeds up your site. It also reduces your bandwidth usage.
Link Similar Posts Together Within Your Blog.
Routinely, go through your posts and link them to each other. I have only worked with WordPress, so I can’t tell you how it works with other blog platforms. But linking posts is very easy on a WordPress blog.
- Go in and edit any existing blog.
- Highlight the text that you want to link to another post. Add text if necessary.
- Click on the insert hyperlink button. You’ll see, at the bottom of the window that pops open, an option “Or link to existing content.â€
- Click on it, and a list of all of your previous blog posts will appear.
- Scroll down until you find the right article
- Click on it. It should change color. (On my blog it turns grey.)
- Now click on the “Add Link†button. Two articles are now linked together.
Optimize Blog URLs and Permalinks.
Make sure that the URL assigned when you post a new blog is optimized with keywords for the blog’s contents. Separate words in the title with a hyphen. You also want to be sure the permalinks aren’t identified by “?page_id=1†but are identified by the title of keywords you want to optimize for.
Optimize Your Blog with a Sitemap.
A sitemap helps the search engines crawl your blog. WordPress blogs can be optimized a WordPress plugin called Google XML Sitemaps. It automatically updates the sitemap as you add new content to your blog.
Optimize Your Titles With Keywords
Use natural language, but use keywords in your titles that harmonize with your site. This means you must do some keyword research so you know what people are searching for. It’s okay to write some blogs that touch on topics that you aren’t sure others are searching for, but if you do this all the time, your blog won’t get found.
Build Backlinks
Write content with serious value and start commenting on Twitter and Facebook, and on forums or blogs related in topic to yours. This will develop natural backlinks, some with real value because when you write something that shares real insights into your niche, others will share it.
You can also turn your blog posts into articles and post them on one quality article site. Don’t plaster the web with one article in multiple directories. This will hurt your SEO efforts so significantly, your website may never recover.
